What is Cogmed?

A neuroscience-based program to improve attention and working memory

Cogmed Working Memory Training is a research-based computerized program developed by neuroscientists to improve attention and focus by increasing working memory capacity. Working memory is a key cognitive ability we use in virtually every area of daily life — remembering instructions, learning new things, reading and comprehending, organizing, planning, and inhibiting impulses.

Research has shown that 80% of individuals who complete the Cogmed program make significant, real-life improvements. Paoli Psychological Associates is a Cogmed Qualified Practice, meaning our clinicians are trained to supervise and coach clients through the program.

Substantial research has documented that Cogmed training translates into improvements in attention, impulse control, academic performance, behavior, memory, and social awareness — and these improvements last after training ends.

How the program works

Five weeks, five days a week, from home

Cogmed training is done on a computer at the user’s home, school, or workplace. The program involves five one-hour training sessions per week for five weeks. Training is supervised by a trained psychologist through a start-up session and regular coaching calls. The user’s progress is monitored throughout, and results are documented.

The program is designed for children, teens, and adults. It is particularly appropriate for individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), with or without hyperactivity, as well as anyone who wants to improve their ability to concentrate and pay attention.
