Counseling and Psychotherapy

Therapy tailored to you

Counseling, or psychotherapy, is a collaborative process where clients participate in regularly scheduled sessions, during which they engage in identifying challenges and needs, increasing insight and self-awareness, and developing strategies to reach the goals they desire.

Counseling does not have to be a long-term venture. We often employ short-term psychotherapy approaches that have been shown to be very effective with many emotional and relationship difficulties. Our experienced and well-trained clinicians provide high-quality care using treatments that are backed by the latest research. We specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

At Paoli Psychological Associates, we tailor the counseling approach to best address each client’s needs and goals. In addition to short-term approaches, we sometimes use longer-term, insight-oriented approaches. Through these approaches, clients achieve success in making important changes, accelerating personal growth, attaining greater contentment, and enhancing personal effectiveness.

We often collaborate with other professionals our clients are working with — psychiatrists, doctors, teachers, or guidance counselors. Such collaborations frequently aid in the client’s success.

Our approach

Evidence-based, goal-oriented care

Our primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy — the most extensively researched form of psychotherapy available, with proven effectiveness for anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and many other concerns. CBT is structured, present-focused, and skill-based, meaning clients leave sessions with practical tools they can use immediately.

When the situation calls for it, our clinicians also draw on complementary approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and longer-term insight-oriented therapy. The approach always follows the person — not the other way around.
